Hurricane Harvey makes landfall overnight in Texas
Week 7 - Mass Wasting, Streams & Flooding HURRICANE HARVEY I moved to central Texas after Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast. Houston (which is 1 1/2 hrs away from where I am) was one of the cities that took a huge hit in rainfall that caused severe flooding. A few things I found, Hurricane Harvey is the first major hurricane (winds greater than 110 MPH) rainfall measured in feet inundated coastal Texas in millions. Hurricane Harvey originated from a westward-moving tropical wave that emerged from Africa over the eastern Atlantic ocean. Highest wind speed: 134 MPH Date: August 17, 2017 - September 2, 2017 Category: Tropical Depression (NHC/CPHC), Category 4 Hurricane Damage: estimated $125 billion I work at the airport in College Station/Bryan for American Airlines and the two airports in Houston and another airport in Beaumont were severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
